It’s 2020. It’s no longer acceptable to say, “We’re in the digital age” because we’ve been here so long, everyone should know it by now. There’s no excuse for you to not be utilizing the technology that is easily available to you! So, let’s talk about designing a website.
How do I stay relevant?
I could explain the complexities of Search Engine Optimization or Google/Social Media advertising, but I’m not going to do that. While those things are incredibly important and have their place, today is about BUILDING A WEBSITE. But not just a website, a PROPER website through effective Web Design.
Just like fashion or interior design, website design trends actually fluctuate over time. Most of the time, we don’t consciously notice it. But when a website is “out of style,” your brain almost automatically backs you away from it and wants to go somewhere else. It just doesn’t feel right. This means that if you had your website built back in 2008 when you opened your business, but haven’t changed a thing since, it’s time for an upgrade. Even if your business is doing well, a bad website could be turning some people away, which is just leaving money on the table.
Take this as an example:
One of these is obviously better than the other, and I’m sure you can form a very quick opinion of each of the websites and their associated businesses.
Look at some of these statistics for mobile phone usage (and these are a few years old at this point, so these numbers are likely higher now)
- 80% of internet users own a smartphone (Smart Insights, 2017)
- 53% of mobile website visits are abandoned if a mobile site takes longer than three seconds to load. For every one second delay in site load time, conversions fall by 12% (Google, 2018)
- In 2018, 52.2% of all worldwide online traffic was generated through mobile phones, up from 50.3% in the previous year (Statista, 2018)
- 57% of all U.S. online traffic now comes from smartphones and tablets (BrightEdge, 2018)
Do you see the importance of a modern, optimized, mobile-friendly website? I hope so!
Who is a website for?
Every single business on Earth can benefit from a website at this point. Whether you are part of a corporation or a freelancer, a website is important for your exposure! Everybody I know does a quick Google search to research a business before actually doing business with them, and I’m sure you would say the same thing.
The good news is this: building/revamping a website is not a huge, costly undertaking. In fact, it’s probably far more reasonable than you would expect. Take a look at our Website Services and give us a call to discuss today!
